New Muses Theatre Company cancels Angels in America
New Muses Theatre Company’s production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: Millennium Approaches has been cancelled due to casting issues.
TACOMA, WA- New Muses Theatre Company has cancelled their upcoming production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: Millennium Approaches after a fruitless casting search of the South Sound. The production was scheduled to open on August 16 and run for three weeks at the Dukesbay Theater.
Managing Artistic Director Niclas R. Olson informed the confirmed members of the cast of the decision in a letter last week. He wrote:
“As a producer of independent theatre one is forced to believe that good actors will be drawn to good scripts. However, to my great dismay, this time that wonderful notion has been proved incorrect. I applaud you for your willingness to take a risk not only on a small theatre company like ours, but on a script that truly exemplifies our mission of intelligent, thought-provoking, and engaging theatre for a contemporary audience. You are the reason we continue to produce scripts like Angels.
All that being said, Angels in America is not going to disappear from our radar as a company or from my own mind as a director. Angels was the first script chosen for our season back in mid-November of last year and I feel strongly that this play will be in the discussion for our next full season and as a project during the “off-season” to come. In many ways, Angels inspired this season and it breaks my heart to pull it from the boards, but that is the danger of producing this type of theater and we will move on and persevere.”
The official announcement of the cancellation was delayed as a replacement project was sought. However due to the time constraints involved, the company has decided to go dark and focus on our upcoming production of Shakespeare’s ROMEO/JULIET.
Season ticket holders will be sent a refund for the production.
