New Muses Theatre Company announces July production of Strindberg’s MISS JULIE
New Muses Theatre company announces July production of Miss Julie by August Strindberg to replace Finian’s Rainbow, which will move to next season.
TACOMA, WA: Fringe theatre company New Muses has announced plans to move their previously scheduled production of FINIAN’S RAINBOW to the 2015-16 season and mount August Strindberg’s MISS JULIE this July in its place.
Said Managing Artistic Director Niclas Olson of the move, “We were really looking forward to FINIAN’S but with the exceptional number of musicals already in production in Tacoma this June and July it became clear that by moving the show to next season we could assemble a far stronger cast and deliver a much better show. We want to thank everyone who supported the show and especially those who auditioned. Don’t worry; we won’t forget anyone when this show rolls around next year. We have a strong production plan all ready to go and look forward to travelling to Glocca Morra in the future.”
“As for MISS JULIE, “ Olson continued, “I’m personally a huge fan of Strindberg’s work and when looking for something else to move into this slot, it became clear that MISS JULIE would be a great choice. It’s a small cast show with several really good parts and will be treat for both the audience and production team.”
MISS JULIE, written in 1888, is the story of a young countess in turn of the century Sweden. Playwright August Strindberg weaves a spellbinding tale of seduction and intrigue as Miss Julie and her father’s valet, Jean, taunt and tease one another over the course of one steamy midsummer’s night until they reach the final and stunning conclusion.
MISS JULIE will run at the Dukesbay Theater (508 6th Ave #10, Tacoma) July 3 – 19 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm, with a special added performance on Thursday July 16 at 8:00pm and no performance on July 4. Tickets will be sold at a discounted rate of $10 for this production.
New Muses’ 2014-15 season will continue over the summer with the second annual installment of the ONE-NIGHT-ONLY Staged Reading Series at various theaters around Tacoma. The 2015-16 season (including updated dates for FINIAN’S RAINBOW) will be announced during the final staged reading of the season.
